A Herd Of Wild Elephants In Suoh Lampung Barat Damaged Public Cemetery

A herd of wild elephants re-entered residential areas and damaged a public cemetery in Pemangku (Dusun) Sinar Wayah Pekon (Village) Roworejo, Suoh District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.

The supervisors of the Gajah Suoh Conflict Task Force and West Suoh Lampung Bandar, Sugeng Hari Kinaryo Adi, said that the herd of wild elephants not only damaged residential areas, but also damaged public cemeteries.

Based on amateur video from local residents, it can be seen that the atmosphere of the public cemetery that has been ravaged is thought to have been the result of the wild elephant's tantrum.

"The incident occurred on Sunday night, November 17, 2024, the latest update of the wild elephant herd is still around the tomb, or approximately 500 meters from the burial area," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 18.

Until now, the Task Force team together with the local community are still monitoring the presence of a herd of wild elephants that have entered the residents' settlements.

According to Sugeng, the Suoh Valley Task Force has now intercepted and prevented the herd of wild elephants.

"Currently, the Task Force team is monitoring and blocking the herd of elephants back into the forest," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the herd of wild elephants had entered settlements and damaged as many as 20 houses in Talang Village Session, Roworejo Village, Suoh District, West Lampung Regency.

A herd of 18 wild elephants entered the settlement and damaged 20 houses of residents.

There were no casualties in the incident. However, as a result of the elephant attack, dozens of houses and a four-wheeled vehicle (car) were also damaged by being attacked by a herd of wild elephants.
