Turkish Government Fines Twitch Rp920 Million Due To Data Leakage

JAKARTA - Turkey's Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) or the Turkish Data Protection Agency is reported to have fined Twitch 2 million lires or around Rp920 million, due to data violations.

Reported by the official Anadolu news agency, KVKK has investigated data breaches, following a 125 GB data leak against Amazon's gaming platform.

As a result, KVKK found that Twitch's data controller was considered not good enough in carrying out its obligations, both in prevention and risk mitigation of data breaches.

The data breach affected 35,274 people in Turkey. Thus, the KVKK imposed a fine of 1.75 million lires (Rp805 million) due to inadequate security and 250,000 lires (115 million) for failing to report the violation.

However, Twitch has yet to issue a statement on the matter. They also have not commented on Reuters.

Meanwhile, Twitch recently overhauled the appearance of its mobile app so that the number of active users per month could increase.

When opening the Twitch app with the latest design, all users will see a live streaming feed. This feed displays live recommendations that are personalized from streamers or communities that users like.

If the user moves the screen to the side in the feed, they will see a preview of various streamings. When you want to join or interact in the comments column, users only need to tap on the preview screen.

In addition, on the Home tab, users will see a disclosure feed to explore various content, a left drawer at the top to see the follow-up account that is broadcasting, a clip to see the missed live, and a Story to view streamer activities.
