Regarding the Giant Sea Wall, RK and Pramono Agree

JAKARTA – Jakarta gubernatorial candidate number 1, Ridwan Kamil agrees with his competitor, Pramono Anung, regarding the construction of the Giant Sea Wall to protect Jakarta from the threat of flooding and rising sea levels. However, RK emphasized the importance of spatial justice and must pay attention to the principles of social, economic and environmental justice.

"I agree that the construction of the Giant Sea Wall is an important step. However, I emphasize that development in Jakarta must meet the principles of social, economic and environmental justice," he said in the Third Debate of the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada, Sunday, November 17, 2024.

In addition, the implementation of the Giant Sea Wall construction must involve many parties, including residents, NGOs and WALHI to ensure whether the Giant Sea Wall is the main solution. "Jakarta residents need a realistic program in handling floods," added RK.

Like Pramono Anung, the former Governor of West Java also proposed greening efforts in the area by planting mangroves and expanding the embankment. RK intends to make the Giant Sea Wall area a social space that provides direct benefits to the community, especially the younger generation. "Our additional idea is to make the Giant Sea Wall area a social space. The area must provide benefits to the community, including the younger generation," he said.

Previously, Jakarta gubernatorial candidate number 3, Pramono Anung, emphasized that his party would comply with the central government's decision regarding the Giant Sea Wall which has become part of the National Strategic Project (PSN). In addition, Pramono proposed the Giant Mangrove Wall concept as a sustainable solution that could provide better ecological benefits while strengthening the coastal ecosystem.
