Xi Jinping And Joe Biden Discuss Stability Of China-US Relations Amid Global Challenges
JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the President of the United States (US), Joe Biden, on the sidelines of APEC's 31st Summit in Lima, Peru. Through this meeting, Xi expressed his pleasure to meet again with Biden, Xi admitted that China-US relations over the past four years have been in high tide.
Nevertheless, under the joint leadership of the two presidents, both parties are also involved in dialogue and useful cooperation, and their overall relationship remains stable.
Xi said China-US relations direction has proven validity of various experiences and inspirations obtained from diplomatic relations over the past 45 years.
At a time when the two countries treat each other as partners and friends, look for similarities while putting aside differences, and helping each other to achieve success, their relationship will progress significantly.
On the other hand, if they regard each other as competitors or enemies, pursue fierce competition, and seek to hurt each other, their relationship will be disrupted and even experience setbacks.
Noting that humanity is faced with unprecedented challenges in this volatile world, with frequent conflicts and old problems exacerbated by new problems, Xi said competition between major countries should not be the basic logic at this time.
Only through solidarity and cooperation can humanity overcome the various difficulties that exist today. In the new era of the scientific and technological revolution as well as the rapidly growing industrial transformation, Xi said that decoupling and supply chain disruption were not the solutions.
He stressed that only mutually beneficial cooperation can lead to joint development. Xi also called the approach to "limited space, high security" (small yards, high flights) not something that big countries should pursue. On the other hand, only openness and mutual sharing can advance the welfare of mankind.
"As two major countries, China and the US must think about the interests of the whole world, as well as inject more certainty and positive energy into a volatile world," he added.
Xi stressed his consistent belief that the stable China-US relationship, which is the most important bilateral relationship in the world, is crucial not only for the benefit of the Chinese people and the US, but also for the future and the fate of all mankind.
"Both sides should remember the welfare of the two nations and the common interests of the international community, make wise choices, continue to explore the right ways so that the two major countries can get along well, and realize peaceful coexistence in the long term on the planet," he added.
Xi highlighted the recent US elections, and stressed that China's goal for stable, healthy, and sustainable China-US relations remains unchanged.
Xi said China's commitment to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation as principles in dealing with China-US relations remain unchanged.
China's steadfast position in maintaining its sovereignty, security and development interests remains unchanged. Likewise, China's desire to continue the traditional friendship between the Chinese people and the US remains the same," he added.
The president said China is ready to work closely with the US government to maintain dialogue, expand cooperation, and manage differences, so that it can seek a stable transition in China-US relations in the interests of the two nations.
