Typhoon Man-yi Disrupts Aviation Operations In The Philippines

JAKARTA - Typhoon super Man-Yi brings heavy rain and strong winds that disrupt flight operations and transportation services in various Philippine regions.

Philippine Civil Aviation Authority said so far 75 domestic flights and 18 international flights of Philippine Airlines and the Cebu Pacific airline had been canceled for Sunday and Monday (18/11), according to a Manila Times report.

Typhoon, also known as Pepito, hit the Philippines on Saturday night (16/11), wounding two people and impacting more than 850,000 people across the country, according to Inquirer.Net. National Board of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management said 111,658 people had fled and were moved to evacuation centers.

Strong winds have reportedly uprooted trees, knocked down power lines, and tore up the roofs of zinc in the Philippines. Typhoon Man-yi still carries a maximum speed of 185 kilometers per hour after hitting Rarely populated Catandunes Island, on Saturday night.

The government has also deployed more than 36,000 rescue personnel from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and coast guard to assist the affected communities and respond quickly to the damage caused by the typhoon.

However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomy Service Agency said the typhoon was expected to weaken on Sunday.
