PU Minister Dody Hanggodo: Dam Not Only For Sawah Waters
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, said that building dams is not only for rice fields, but also for flood control.
"The actual dam function is not only food security, some are for electricity purposes, and most importantly raw water," he said after reviewing Karangtalun irrigation in Magelang Regency, quoted from Antara, Sunday, November 17.
He said that he was currently checking the dams and dams built by the Ministry of Public Works throughout Indonesia.
"Incidentally there was an event in Yogyakarta, I took the time to see the Karangtalun Dam," he said.
According to him, one of the main functions of dams and dams is food security.
He said the Karangtalun Dam flowed into rice fields in three districts covering an area of 5,154 hectares, namely in Sleman, Magelang, and Bantul Regencies.

"We want to focus on optimizing what we have today, we have approximately 47 dams, a total of up to 2026 there are only 61 dams that we will maximize to be able to self-sufficient in food no later than 2028," he said.
He conveyed that the Ministry of Public Works only prepares water, to regulate whether there is no excess water or lack of water, the dry season is no less water, nor during the rainy season there will be no flooding.
