Critical Thinking Concept In Islam According To Ulil Albab, Has Been Explained In Al-Quran

Yogyakarta - Everyone must be able to think critically in every view or responding to something. Critical thinking in Islam is also called tafakur or thinking deeply and reflects seriously. So how to think critically according to Islam and its benefits in life?

People who can think critically also belong to the Ulil Albab group. Ulil Albab are people who are able to use their minds and thoughts well to understand the events of nature and evidence of the power of Allah SWT. This was also conveyed 16 times in the Koran.

Critical thinking provides important benefits for Muslims to be able to find solutions to problems and so as not to be easily exposed to deception. Let's look more at how the concept of critical thinking according to Islam and its application.

Critical Thinking In Islam

The teaching about critical thinking contained in the Koran in Surah Ali Imran verse 190-191. In the letter, Allah SWT said:

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Meaning: In fact in the creation of heaven and earth, and the turn of the night and day there are signs (the greatness of God) for intelligent people, (ie) people who remember God while standing, sitting or lying down, and they think about creation The heavens and the earth (while saying), "O our Lord, you don't create all this in vain; Mahasuci you, protect us from the punishment of hell."

The purpose of critical thinking based on the above verse can be interpreted as an act of thinking about the greatness of Allah SWT. In the day and night, Muslims are encouraged to always remember the greatness of God and fear His torture.

When referring to the verse, the criteria of people who think critically are those who use their minds to think, examine, examine, and introspect a case.

Someone who has the attitude of Ulil Albab will always have the thought that everything in the universe occurs because of the will of Allah SWT. God has a certain purpose or purpose, so that every event does not have any in vain.

According to the book Knowing the Critical Theory by Mizanul Akronym, critical thinking according to the Koran can also be understood as a self -approach to Allah SWT using the heart. This is because human reason can think broadly, but still has limitations about the power of Allah SWT. As the hadith of the following words of the Prophet:

تَفَكَّرُوا فِي الْخَلْقِ وَلَا تَفَكَّرُوا فِي الْخَالِقِ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَقْدُرُونَ قَدْرَهَ

Meaning: Think about creation and don't think about the Creator, because you will not be able to think about Him. (HR. Abu Nu'aim).

Characteristics of People with Critical Thinking

So what kind of people are able to think critically? The following are the characteristics of people who think critically and need to be implemented in everyday life:

  • Have thoughts or views that are open to various things.
  • Willing to admit mistakes if the action or argument is wrong and others can prove the mistake.
  • Not only receiving or silent when knowing there is injustice and untruth.
  • Not easily provoked or consumed by false news and hate speech.
  • Has a high curiosity in addressing an issue or problem.
  • Always check or ensure the truth by tracing facts from various sources.
  • Skeptic or easily hesitant to be able to think of something more deeply.
