Barcelona 2024 MotoGP Qualification Results: Bagnaia Pole, Fourth Martin

JAKARTA Francesco Bagnaia, who is the defending champion of MotoGP, became the fastest in the 2024 Barcelona Grand Prix qualifying session to win pole position.

The Italian racer completed the qualifying session with a time of 1 minute 38.641 seconds at the Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 evening WIB.

Bagnaia won +0.055 seconds from Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) in second place. This is an impressive achievement ahead of Espargaro's last race as a full-time racer in the premier class.

Following the two names to complete the top three positions is six-time world champion Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoG). The Spaniard was adrift of +0.157 seconds from Bagnaia.

Meanwhile, the interim standings ruler Jorge Martin will start from fourth place. This position is not so good for Martin who actually only needs to win the Sprint Race to lock up the world title.

Currently Martin sits at the top with a collection of 485 points. He is 24 points ahead of Bagnaia who collected 461 points in second place.

If he wins the Sprint tonight then Martin will lock up the world title. The result made him definitely 27 points ahead or more than Bagnaia.

If Bagnaia wins the Sprint then the world title will be contested in the main race tomorrow. With the leading starting position, it is clear that Bagnaia can be above the wind.
