Two Indonesian Tourism Villages Win International Awards At The 2024 Best Tourism Villages

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism said that two tourist villages in Indonesia won awards for the Best Tourism Villages in 2024 from the World Tourism Organization.

The two villages are Jatiluwih Tourism Village in Bali and Wukisari Tourism Village in the Special Region of Yogyakarta received an award in the fourth edition of Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2024 which was held in Colombia on Friday, November 15.

The award included both tourist villages as part of 55 Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2024.

"I am very proud and optimistic that this award can be an inspiration for other tourist villages in Indonesia to continue to optimize the potential of natural wealth, cultural heritage, and empower the community of villages towards more inclusive and sustainable tourism," said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 15.

The Best Tourism Villages award ceremony was held to capture pilot villages that have succeeded in developing tourism by empowering local communities and preserving local cultural traditions and heritage.

UN Tourism runs a mentoring program for selected tourist villages that are not yet part of Best Tourism Villages.

Awards for the Best Tourism Village from UN Tourism have been given to Nglanggeran Village in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in 2021 and Penglipuran Village in Bali in 2023.

In 2024, Jatiluwih Tourism Village and Wukisari Tourism Village were selected as award recipient tourist villages from around 260 candidates from more than 60 UN Tourism member countries.

"Of course, we must not be complacent about this achievement. We at the Ministry of Tourism will continue to strive to strengthen the domestic tourism village ecosystem through a collective commitment for the advancement of Indonesian tourism," said Widiyanti.

He explained that the development of tourist villages is a superior government program that is in line with the vision of village development in the Asta Cita Cabinet of the Red and White.
