Restaurants In Malaysia Sell Lumpia 'Sultan' For IDR 10.2 Million, What's In It?

Popiah aka wet spring is a traditional dish that is very popular in Southeast Asia, usually known as a simple and affordable street food.

In Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, the spring dish is known as popiah. This dish is inspired by the typical wet spring of Fujian or Chaozhou which is popular in Southeast Asia to Taiwan.

Popiah is often sold at very friendly prices in bags. However, what happens if the popiah is sold at an expensive price?

Two restaurants in Malaysia, namely Nimbus from Kuala Lumpur and Bibi's Popiah in Ipoh collaborated to create premium popiah which they refer to as "Most Expansive Popiah" or the most expensive popiah.

The launch of this luxurious dish was shared through the upload of the Instagram account of one of the founders of Bibi's Popiah, Perly Yuen, on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

In the video, a very special process of making popiah can be seen, which certainly attracts the attention of culinary fans.

This premium popiah is only available by pre-ordering, to be precise one week earlier. This expensive popiah can be found in all Bibi's Popiah outlets in Malaysia.

To provide a clearer picture of the materials used, a video uploaded from Malaysian media, KL Foodie shows more details about what is in each population.

Chef Fred CHOng from Nimbus Restaurant and Yao Tong from Bibi's Popiah revealed that each population contains five different ingredients originating from various countries.

Among them are the Alaskan King Crab which has been steamed for 4-5 minutes. Next, the crab roasts using a blow horror device with an onion leaf slices, fried cordyceps and oillobes.

Untuk mengganti sengkuang (lobak) yang biasanya ada dalam popiah biasa, mereka menggunakan piring Ibaraki Keisui yang sweet dan seryak. Selain itu, setiap popiah juga dimainkan dengan sayu khusus, yang menambah rasa unik pada makanan ini.

This popiah is then rolled with spring rolls. Then, ornamental with unusual topping, Ossetra type relief from France. In addition, it is equipped with gold gold 24 carat which is sent from Italy.

Of course, the very high price of popiah immediately triggered various reactions on social media. Many netizens were surprised by this fantastic price, some even joked that the price of one popiah was more expensive than renting their house.
