South Papua Quarantine Team Secures Utuh Crocodile Skin At Mopah Airport

JAKARTA - A joint team from the South Papua Quarantine Service Unit (Satpel) at Mopah Airport, Merauke and Avsec secured a complete crocodile skin for a moment to be taken out of the area.

South Papua Quarantine Head Cahyono in Jayapura, Friday night, said that initially officers suspected passengers' belongings when passing the x-ray engine at the departure terminal, Friday, November 15, 2024.

At that time, the x-ray engine was guarded by Avsec officers Yuliana Gebze, Riky Sarawan and members of Kopasgat Pratu Nazir and when it was opened for inspection it was found that one piece of crocodile skin was intact.

"This is the first case related to crocodile skin with a length of 2.68 meters and a width of 0.8 m and the goods were immediately secured," said Cahyono.

The owner of the crocodile skin was not detained, but was asked not to do it again because it violated Article 35 of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning quarantine of animals, fish, and plants.

Previously, November 14, 2024, joint officers also secured three preserved Cendrawasih birds.

The three preserved Cendrawasih birds were secured from one of KM Tatamailau passengers who docked at Merauke Harbor.

"The goods are now being secured at the quarantine office in Merauke," said Cahyono.
