Rainy Season, Semarang BPBD Ensures 26 Early Flood Detection Devices Function Well

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Semarang City has ensured that the presence of an early detection tool for the disaster or the Early Warning System (EWS) of floods in the area is functioning properly.

"There are 26 EWS. Everything is functioning properly, except for the two tools that are under treatment," said Head of BPBD Semarang City Endro P Martanto, in Semarang, Friday, November 15, confiscated by Antara,

He explained that the EWS equipment was installed in various locations, such as the Tenggang River, Sringin River, Banget River, Silandak River, East Flood Canal River (BKT), and Plumbon Dam.

According to him, EWS is an early detection tool for flood disasters equipped with an alarm that will sound if the water level exceeds the normal elevation regulated.

"So, my voice will read that the water has gone up at certain elevations that we have set on the river where the EWS already exists," he said.

Then for EWS who are under treatment, he admits, because many of the components were lost due to theft, such as cameras, alarms, and so on.

"Some of the cameras are missing, some are missing. Like it or not, it doesn't work. This is what we are really concerned about. We have reported it to the police," he said.

The existence of the EWS tool, he said, is actually beneficial to the community so that they can anticipate disasters so that they must be guarded together.

Floods, he said, are one of the potential natural disasters that occur in the city of Semarang, especially during the rainy season so that the presence of EWS is very important.

As an anticipatory measure, the Semarang City BPBD in the future will install EWS in areas close to residential areas to make them safer.

In addition to the installation of EWS, he said, efforts to dredging rivers in flood areas have also been carried out massively by the Semarang City Public Works Agency as an effort to anticipate flooding.
