Sritex Lacks Raw Materials, Ministry of Industry Ensures Imports Resume

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has confirmed that the import of raw materials needed by PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (SRIL) or Sritex has resumed after being frozen in the bonded zone due to bankruptcy status.

Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza said that his party will monitor the operational conditions of Sritex which are still running while waiting for the results of the cassation submission for the decision to cancel the PKPU homologation.

"Still waiting for the cassation. We will monitor Sritex," said Faisol when met at Kota Kasablanka Mall, Jakarta, Thursday, November 14.

Sritex's current bankruptcy has had an impact on the blocking carried out by Customs to enter and remove goods needed for production into the SRIL area. This has also triggered difficulties in obtaining raw materials, so that Sritex has laid off 2,500 of its employees.

This condition will worsen if the business license is not immediately granted as a result of the cassation process currently underway at the Supreme Court (MA).

Meanwhile, Acting Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Textile Industry (IKFT) of the Ministry of Industry Reni Yanita said that her party ensures that operations will continue and Sritex will not lay off its workers.

"Indeed, the raw materials for the fabric are waiting for the import process, that's all. Because it is bankrupt, Customs has immediately frozen its import facilities," she said.

Reni did not deny that the freezing of Sritex raw material imports had affected the Goods Import Plan (RIB), so that the impact is currently being felt. However, she believes that Customs has reopened the import route.

Thus, the supply of raw materials should be able to be received again for the next few months. Reni also hopes that the import of raw materials can be facilitated so that production continues and no employees are laid off.

"It has been opened. But, of course, that also requires a process. If it runs like before, there will be no more delays for several days," she said.
