4 Things That Trigger Someone Often Worries From Sleep Early In The Morning

Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and seen the clock show it at 3 am? If so, you are not alone. Many people have experienced this. Not only at 3 am, some people also wake up at 1 am, or other time.

Psychologist and sleep expert Alexa Kane, PsyD says even though you feel wake-up time is very regular, this is actually quite common and there's no need to worry.

"In the past, maybe there was a reason why you woke up at that time, for example because of sleep disturbances such as sleep apnea or hearing a crying baby. Your body could have been used to that time," Kane said, quoted by VOI from the Cleveland Clinic page on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

Even though getting up early in the morning is a very common phenomenon, this is not dangerous, especially if you can get back to sleep easily. This condition does not mean you are a person who sleeps badly or suffers from insomnia.

Then, what exactly is the reason you wake up at 3 am? Kane said the real problem arises when you wake up, but you can't sleep anymore until the morning.

Waking up late at night can be caused by various factors, ranging from sleep disturbances to temporary factors. Here are 4 reasons why you wake up at 3 am:

Even if you're sleeping, your body is still working hard to process the food and drinks consumed during that day. That's why you might wake up to go to the bathroom. However, if this happens too often, it could be a sign of a notturia, which is the condition in which a person is often awakened at night to urinate.

It can be noisy sounds such as ambulance sirens, radio neighbors that sound loud, or the light of the road that shines on the bed that makes you wake up. External disturbances like this often occur when you are in the REM sleep stage (Rapid Eye Movement). At that time, your body was more sensitive to sound and light.

Sometimes, our thoughts can interfere more with sleep than external disorders. Stressful days can give rise to annoying thoughts in the middle of the night. This thought arises in the form of a nightmare that makes you wake up at 3 am.

Anxiety can also make it difficult for you to sleep well all night. If you think too much about what happened that day or focus too much on the waiting list of tasks, this can trigger you to wake up at 3 am.

Likewise with people who are depressed, they often have poor sleep patterns. This can cause them to oversleep or feel sleepy all day long.

Waking up at midnight can also be a symptom of sleep apnea. In this disorder, you sometimes stop breathing during sleep. In addition to causing you to wake up, sleep apnea can also interfere with heart rhythm and reduce the flow of oxygen to the body.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include:

- Mengguncuh.- Terbangun tiba-tiba karena menungkuat atau sulit bersiap.- Mengantur atau kelemahan di siang hari.

"If you experience these symptoms, you should consult a doctor or sleep expert. Sleep apnea that is not treated can cause heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other health problems," Kane said.
