The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) stated that the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections in East Flores Regency will still be carried out in the midst of disasters that occurred in the area.
"Later there will be a special polling place (TPS) in the evacuation site," Acting Governor of NTT Andriko Noto Susanto told reporters in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, November 13.
This was conveyed in connection with the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada on 27 November in East Flores Regency, which is still being hit by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi.
Andriko said there may be several polling stations that will be built for evacuation sites, because previously there had been discussions regarding regional elections in East Flores.
"In the afternoon there will also be further discussions through zoom with the Minister of Home Affairs, the KPU and related parties related to the implementation of the regional elections in East Flores," he said.
Chairman of the East Nusa Tenggara General Election Commission (KPU) Jemris Fointuna also ensured that the implementation of the regional elections would continue in the disaster area.
"By moving the location of the TPS from 11 villages from 14 villages affected by the disaster to the evacuation post," he said.
Currently, he said, the East Flores KPU together with the local Regency Population and Civil Registry Office are re-registrating refugees to ensure that refugees have been registered on the permanent voter list (DPT) or not.
"The heavy task of the KPU and related agencies is to ensure that the victims of the eruption recorded in the DPT are in which refugee camps," he said.
