Invite President Prabowo To The White House, Joe Biden To Discuss Cooperation And The South China Sea Problem
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto met with US President Joe Biden at the White House on Tuesday, November 12 local time. The two countries discussed cooperation and conflict in the South China Sea.
"I will work hard to strengthen relations between Indonesia and the United States, and I want to work well together so that our relationship is closer," Prabowo said in his statement delivered by the State Secretariat.
President Prabowo's meeting with Joe Biden in the White House oval room took place after the Indonesian leader uploaded a video of his phone call with US elected president Donald Trump on social media.
At the White House, Joe Biden said the two leaders discussed climate, conflict in the Middle East, and the South China Sea. It is known that Indonesia does not recognize China's claim to its territory in the South China Sea.

"We continue to encourage Indonesia to work with their legal experts to ensure every agreement they make with (Chinese People's Republic) is in accordance with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on Maritime Law," White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told a news conference after the meeting.
