Baidu Launches Xiaodu AI: First AI Glasses With The Support Of The Original Chinese Language Model

JAKARTA - At Baidu World Conference 2024, Baidu officially introduced Xiaodu AI Glasses, which are claimed to be the world's first AI glasses equipped with a Chinese original language model. The device is designed by Baidu's hardware division, Xiaodu Technology, and uses Baidu's Ernie-language model to deliver AI technology that is integrated in wearable devices for Chinese-language users.

Xiaodu AI glasses have light weight, only 45 grams, and are equipped with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera with AI stabilization technology for smooth photography from the user's point of view. These glasses also have four-point microphone arrays that can effectively capture sound, as well as anti-corruption open speakers that ensure clear audio, providing an immersive hands-free experience.

These glasses support six key features, including real-time Q&A via walk-and-ask, calorie recognition, object identification with eclipse features, audio-visual translation, intelligent reminder, and AI anti-rocket technology for photos and videos, allowing users to document moments smoothly.

In terms of battery life, Xiaodu AI glasses offer up to 56 hours of standby time and are capable of running continuous audio playback for more than 5 hours. With fast charging technology, these glasses can be fully charged in just 30 minutes, making it a practical device for everyday use.

Run on the original DuerOS AI operating system, these glasses are anticipated to be smoothly integrated with popular Baidu applications such as Baidu Maps and Baike, providing a richer user experience.

Xiaodu AI glasses will be officially launched in the first half of 2025, with an estimated selling price of under 2,100 yuan (around IDR 4.58 million).

On the other hand, Apple is developing a smart glasses project with the code name Atlas which aims to bring a completely new AR experience. The project is still in the research stage with a five-year launch target, while Apple is also planning to launch Vision Pro 2 by 2025 or early 2026 with an upgraded M5 chip.
