The Iranian Government Will Pursue Anything That Can Secure The Interests Of The State

JAKARTA - Iran will pursue anything that can secure its interests, Government spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday.

That was said by Mohajerani when asked if there would be direct negotiations with the administration of the elected US president Donald Trump.

"Whatever can secure the interests of the country and the values of the revolution will be pursued by the government," Mohajerani told a journalist, according to the Iranian Student News Agency.

There have been no reports of Donald Trump or his team planning such negotiations, as he prepares to return to being US President after winning Tuesday's election last week.

Trump unilaterally pulled the US out of Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with major world countries during its previous term of office in 2018, reimposing sanctions that had a severe impact on Iran's economy.

"Trump's maximum pressure campaign has failed, even though people have been burdened by him. The important thing is action and not words, but we advise Trump to consider failing his past policies," Mohajerani explained.

It is known that indirect talks between Washington and Tehran to revive the nuclear deal have begun under US President Joe Biden's administration, but have stalled.

Iran is officially still part of the deal, but has reduced its commitment to respect it for US sanctions imposed on Tehran again.
