Disclosure Between Teachers And Students Is The Key To Preventing Bullying Cases In Schools

JAKARTA - The relationship between teachers and students who are more open can make prevention to handling bullying cases easier. This was said by the Head of the Education Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)

According to him, teachers can be a comfortable counseling place after their parents. However, teachers are often busy with administrative tasks so that the availability of time to listen more students is reduced.

"Concerning issues are important in my opinion. Because sometimes they (students) talk to teachers, I'm afraid that there will be an impact on their value or maybe the attention of the teacher and so on. If there are parties who are professionals, it will be better actually," he said as quoted by Antara.

The availability of counseling rooms in schools is important, especially as a place of protection for students who are victims of bullying.

However, according to him, mental rehabilitation efforts through counseling in schools are still minimal, especially in schools that do not have funds or resources to have special counseling teachers.

For schools that do have sufficient resources, they have counselors. But of course we need to think about it, the picture is that our schools are diverse. So there are those who can prepare it (complaints), some don't. But there must be a solution how we can," he said.

She reminded that victims of bullying will experience psychological impacts that should not be underestimated, ranging from feelings of inferiority to feeling useless.

He emphasized that cases of bullying in educational units are serious problems that must be considered. Moreover, he said, Indonesia has the aspiration to produce a golden generation in 2045.

For information, the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 46 of 2023 has included bullying as a form of violence that must be prevented and handled in the educational unit environment.

He said that bullying usually arises because of social relations that are not equal and are repeated to the victim. He emphasized that bullying, whatever it takes, both psychologically and physically, is a behavior that demeans humans.

"If we do that (bullying) it means that we have both demeaned ourselves as human beings. Bullying causes performance in schools to decrease. It even causes mental problems. Victims caused by bullying, don't happen again," he said.

Regarding prevention and handling, Permendikbudristek Number 46 of 2023 has mandated the establishment of a Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (TPPK) in the educational unit environment.

"It's also important that there are other systems built in schools. As if there should also be some kind of task force. If the child faces this problem, who should he report it to. If it's not clear, then of course it will continue to happen," said Mina.
