Subordinates Dragged In Online Gambling Cases, Minister Of Trade Meutya Hafid Apologizes To Residents

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid apologized to residents because his subordinates at his ministry were also involved in the online gambling case (judol).

In fact, the Ministry of Communication and Trade, previously the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo) should have become a state institution responsible for eradicating judol.

"I also apologize, ladies and gentlemen, that from our office someone was involved. It's sad. Because I'm like his mother from the office. It's the same as if you have children involved, it must be like this," said Meutya in Semper Barat, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Tuesday, November 12.

To the public, Meutya promised that her ministry would clean up the case, starting from blocking online gambling sites to eradicating the parties involved.

Even so, Meutya admitted that these efforts could not be completed easily. This is because it is difficult for the government to monitor the involvement of people who participate in playing judol.

"Because the tools are as sophisticated as any, even though we will clean them later, we will clean them up, ladies. But no matter how clean, no matter how clean, tools and supervision will not be enough. Because we cannot reach households," said Meutya.

The police will apply the Money Laundering (TPPU) article to suspects in the judol case involving employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). Currently, a total of 18 suspects have been arrested in this case, of which 10 are Komdigi employees, and the rest are civilians.

These suspects abused their authority by regulating the blocking of online gambling. A number of online gambling sites that deposit money are still open access to the suspects.

The latest Polda Metro Jaya arrested 2 more suspects on Sunday (10/11) yesterday with the initials MN and DM. Suspect MN is a liaison between the bookies and other suspects, such as depositing money and listing websites so that they are not blocked. Meanwhile, the suspect DM played a role in assisting MN's crimes, including accommodating the proceeds of crime.
