BPBD Jakarta Installs Digital Early Warning In 90 Flood-Prone Locations

JAKARTA - The DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has installed a digital-based early Warning System (EWS) in 90 flood-prone locations throughout 2024.

"The installation of EWS in a number of flood-prone locations in Jakarta will be carried out at 90 points in 2024," said Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Disaster Data Center Mohammad Yohan as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 12.

Yohan said the 90 locations were spread across 69 urban villages.

The distribution of locations is 3 points in 3 urban villages (Central Jakarta), 13 points in 12 urban villages (North Jakarta), 15 points in 11 urban villages (West Jakarta), 29 points in 19 urban villages (South Jakarta), and 30 points in 24 urban villages (East Jakarta).

"Temporary data on the location can still shift to see the field conditions," he said.

BPBD DKI targets this activity to continue until December 2024.

He explained that EWS has eight sensors, including to record water levels, water discharge, wind speed, wind direction, flow speed, temperature, humidity and rainfall.

The EWS warning will be entered (inputed) automatically into the Disaster Management Information System (SIMBA) which will be integrated and complementary.

Peringatan akan disampaikan melalui media radio, pesan singkat (SMS) dan WhatsApp yang sistemnya terpusat dari kantor BPBD serta lamanhttps://bpbd.jakarta.go.id/.

Thus, EWS is expected to be effective as a form of mitigation and preparedness for the threat of flood disasters.
