PLN Collaborates With Huawei And SDIC Power For Energy Self-Sufficiency In Indonesia

JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized his commitment to realizing national energy self-sufficiency by strengthening relations between Indonesia and China, especially in the energy sector that is sustainable.

During his first bilateral visit to China on November 8-10, 2024, President Prabowo witnessed the agreement between PT PLN (Persero) and two large companies from China, Huawei and SDIC Power in increasing energy independence in Indonesia. The signing took place at the Indonesia-China Business Forum (ICBF) in Beijing on Sunday, November 10.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that as the backbone of electricity in the country, PLN is committed to collaborating with global partners to achieve the energy self-sufficiency target in sustainability.

"Climate crisis is a global challenge, and this collaboration is proof that we are increasingly united in maintaining the future of the earth. With synergies between Indonesia and China, we ensure that future generations can enjoy a better life than today," Darmawan said in a statement to the media, Tuesday, November 12.

Meanwhile, the Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development of PLN Hartanto Wibowo explained that PLN has hooked up two Chinese companies in developing the energy sector in the country.

Hartanto detailed, In agreement with PT Huawei Tech Investment, PLN and Huawei agreed to collaborate in the study of accelerating digital transformation in the electricity sector. This collaboration will help optimize the more efficient, secure electrical industry in cybersecurity, and support energy transitions in Indonesia through solar energy, micro-grid systems, hybrid power plants, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EV).

This cooperation is not only to strengthen infrastructure but also as an effort to increase the capacity of PLN employees through sharing knowledge and capacity building in the digital transformation of electricity. This step is in accordance with the big agenda of our energy transition," Hartanto said.

The second signed collaboration involves SDIC Power, focusing on the development of the Mamberamo Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Papua. In addition to the creation of integrated demand for renewable energy, PLN and SDIC Power will also conduct joint studies related to the business, technical, legal, and risk aspects of this hydropower plant.

"With SDIC Power, we plan to strengthen PLN's technical and managerial capabilities in the development of the Mamberamo hydropower plant. This collaboration is part of PLN's commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy, as well as expanding access to clean and sustainable energy for the people of Papua and other regions," concluded Hartanto.
