Halsey Expressed His Fear Of Discussing The Father's Figure In The Song

JAKARTA - Singer and songwriter Halsey recently revealed a personal story related to his music career. In an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, he admitted that he was afraid to discuss relationships with his father, Chris Frangipane.

That makes it difficult for him to put songs about his father into his music works. Despite writing such songs for each album, he ultimately decided not to include them in the tracklist.

However, with the release of his fifth studio album, The Great Imperfector, Halsey decided to follow the bold move.

The album features a heart-catching song titled "Hurt Feelings," which explores the complexity of Halsey's relationship with her father. This marks a turning point for Halsey, who finally dares to express an emotional personal experience.

"I've written songs about my dad on every album and every time, right when we got to the time we decided on the tracklist, I cut the songs. I was like, 'I can't do it. I'm too scared, I'm too scared,'" he said, quoted from NME, November 11.

Halsey explained that a shift in perspective was the reason behind this decision. In the past, he felt he had plenty of time to decide to make changes. However, this time, they realized that there might not be a "next album" and that it was important to do it now.

The lyrics of "Hurt Feelings" offer a glimpse of Halsey's emotional upheaval. The song depicts a tense picture of the relationship, characterized by unspoken tensions and feelings. The depiction of their crude and honest experience by Halsey has resonated with many listeners.
