PLN Gandeng Mubadala Energy Takes Advantage Of Gas From Andaman Block

PT PLN (Persero) through Indonesia's Primary Energy Subholding (PLN EPI) collaborates with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) energy company, Mubadala Energy for the collaboration of utilization and development of natural gas infrastructure from the South Andaman Block located off the north coast of Aceh.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said, with this collaboration, PLN has the potential to obtain gas supply as a source of low-energy emissions. Furthermore, both parties will immediately conduct a thorough study regarding the use of gas found in the South Andaman Block.

"PLN is fully committed to developing greener energy to ensure a better future for future generations. Climate change is a global issue so that collective collaboration is needed in handling it," Darmawan explained, Monday, November 11.

Meanwhile, Managing Director & CEO of Mubadala Energy Mansor Mohamed Al Hamed said the signing of the MoU was an important step in developing sustainable energy between the two parties.

"We believe that with this collaboration we can optimize the potential of the South Andaman Block and have a significant impact on companies and the entire region," said Mansor.

PLN EPI President Director Iwan Agung Firstantara explained that the natural gas to be explored came from the Screen and Tangkulo wells in the offshore area north of Aceh. The two wells are estimated to contain more than 8 TCF gases.

With this natural gas resource, PLN EPI and Mubadala Energy are committed to developing infrastructure that supports processing, transportation, and gas distribution, so that they can support the increasing need for clean energy in Indonesia.

"We hope that this study can produce concrete roadmaps in the use of natural gas as a clean energy solution that is not only environmentally friendly, but also has a positive impact on Indonesia's local economy and infrastructure," said Iwan Agung.

Furthermore, Iwan Agung revealed, this collaboration also includes developing human resource capacity at PLN through workshops and group discussions to strengthen expertise in gas infrastructure management.

Through this collaborative approach, PLN EPI hopes to ensure national energy security while at the same time supporting reducing carbon emissions.

"This collaboration will also set parameters to review infrastructure improvements needed to support gas processing, transportation, and local economic growth in supporting Indonesia's energy security and energy transition goals," concluded Iwan Agung.
