Dozens Of People Killed And Injured By Israeli Attacks On Northern Gaza

JAKARTA - Dozens of people were killed and injured in an Israeli attack on a house in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, Palestine on Sunday, the country's medics said.

Footage circulating on social media, which could not immediately be verified, showed about a dozen bodies wrapped in blankets and lying on the ground in a hospital. Residents said the building was hit with at least 30 people.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA and Hamas media said the number of people killed reached 32 people. There is no direct confirmation of the tally by the regional health ministry.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had attacked a location in Jabalia where "terrorists operate."

"This terrorist threatens the IDF forces (Israeli Defense Forces) operating in the area. The details are being reviewed," the Israeli military said.

The military accused Hamas of exploiting civilian residents and property for military purposes, a charge the militant group denies.

Separately, Hamas' armed wing said it attacked 15 Israeli soldiers with anti-tank rockets before "firing them" with grenades and light weapons from close range in Beit Lahiya.

No comment from Israel and Reuters was unable to independently verify the report.

Israel said it was sending troops to Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun in the north of the enclave to fight Hamas militants, who launched attacks from there and to prevent them from gathering again. It said troops had killed hundreds of militants in the area since the new attack began.

In Gaza City, Israeli airstrikes against a house in Sabra's neighborhood killed Wael Al-Khour, an official at the welfare ministry, and seven other family members including his wife and children on Sunday, medics and relatives said.

The Israeli military said it was investigating the report.

The latest conflict in Gaza, Palestine broke out on October 7, 2023, when a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region, killing about 1,200 people and holding 253 others hostage, according to Israeli tallies.

Meanwhile, Gaza's health authorities on Sunday confirmed that the death toll from Palestine since the latest conflict in Gaza has risen to 43,603 fatalities, while 102,929 others were injured, the majority of victims were women and children.
