JAKARTA - Google has just launched an e-Conomy report for the 2024 SEA, which shows some insight into Indonesia's growing digital landscape, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In collaboration with TAMSEK and BAIN & COMPANY, this report shows how AI began to become the main element in Indonesia's digital transformation, encouraging progress in various industries such as e-commerce, finance, and education.
This 2024 report shows that marketing, games and education are the top industries that have the potential to undergo transformation with the use of AI.
According to the report, AI technology is widely used in the marketing sector to target advertising, while in the game sector to improve interaction experience, and in the field of education to develop adaptive learning.
In addition, this report also reveals that mobile AI-tech applications are now starting to be widely used in Indonesia, particularly in content creation (9%), photo effects (9%), and video editing (7%).
"This reflects the high demand for users for creative and digital interactive tools, making AI play an increasingly important role in content-based industries and consumer engagement in this country," Google wrote in its report.

The surge in interest in AI is also seen throughout Indonesia, but East Kalimantan, Jakarta, and the Riau Islands, recorded the highest AI tracing and demand rates nationally.
The increase in AI demand also increases the need for infrastructure that is ready to support this technology. According to Google, Indonesia has taken major steps by increasing the capacity of its data center, which is currently 202 MW.
In the coming years, it is estimated that there will be an additional 268% capacity. This expansion is similar to the more common trend in Southeast Asia, where the data center capacity is expected to grow 1.5x by 2030, with a main focus on facilities that are ready to support AI," he concluded.
