National Police Chief: Hoax News Becomes The Highest Threat In The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said hoax news or misinformation on social media was the highest threat in the 2024 Pilkada.

The National Police Chief assesses that hoax news must be an important point to anticipate because not all people can distinguish true and false information.

"There is one addition that colleagues may also have to follow in relation to the potential for vulnerability that occurs on social media, because at this time if we follow, there are 33 billion social media interactions, of which 38 percent are positive, 23 percent are neutral, and 29 percent are negative," said the National Police Chief as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 7.

According to the National Police Chief, not all people can then distinguish hoax news.

"However, what is certain will cause a reaction, start just reading it, then share it with other colleagues. However, it can also cause action on the ground because of this hoax problem," said Sigit.

Therefore, the National Police Chief asked the regional leadership coordination forum (forkopimda) to be ready to overcome unwanted events during the 2024 Pilkada, including anticipating the spread of hoax news.

"Because (the 2024 regional head) is held simultaneously, of course colleagues must be able to see, explore the potential conflicts that occur, so that the strengths of their colleagues are ready to face any potential problems," he said.
