National Police Chief Reminds Potential Polarization In The 2024 Pilkada
JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reminded all levels of local government to anticipate the potential for polarization in the 2024 Pilkada, especially regions with single candidate pairs and two candidate pairs.
"The phenomena that we have to pay attention to are that only one candidate pair is in 37 regions. Please anticipate this. Then, there is a pair of two candidates in 202 regions. This is also our concern. The situation will definitely be warm," said the National Police Chief as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 7.
The National Police Chief hopes that the conflict events that occurred in the previous regional elections can be a lesson, especially related to the reaction of dissatisfaction with the election results.
"Dissatisfaction events in the results of the regional elections will certainly cause a rise ranging from disputes to riots because this issue is indeed happening in the regions," he said.

Therefore, General Sigit asked the regional leadership coordination forum (forkopimda) to be able to prepare to overcome the potential for polarization which is expected to be higher than the presidential election. Moreover, this election was held simultaneously.
"Because this is carried out simultaneously, of course colleagues must be able to see the potential for conflict that occurs so that the strengths of our colleagues are ready to face any potential problems," he said.
