Riau Police Raids Warehouse House For Imported Used Clothes, 200 Ballpres Confiscated

JAKARTA - The Riau Police raided a storage house for imported clothing (thriphing) in Tiban, Batam City, Riau Islands, and confiscated 200 ballpres' containing clothes and other used goods such as shoes and sandals.

Riau Police Criminal Investigation Director Kombes Nasriadi said the location of the house in Tiban Kencana Housing was suspected of being the place where illegal used goods were circulated from abroad.

"This raid is an attempt by the National Police to take action against the circulation of smuggled goods from abroad," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 6.

He explained that this action was a follow-up to the direction of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to all police ranks in the central and regional levels to take firm action against cases of concern to the government, such as online gambling, drugs and smuggling or illegal imports.

"So this disclosure is a development of the disclosure of cases of illegal used goods in Pekanbaru some time ago," he said.

In this disclosure, the Riau Police Ditreskrimsus ranks in synergy with the Riau Islands Regional Police (Kepri Police) in eradicating the smuggling of illegal goods from abroad.

He said that one suspect was arrested in the disclosure in Pekanbaru, with the initials DR, allegedly selling illegal used goods in the Riau area.

From the results of DR's examination, it is known that the illegal goods were obtained from a supplier who lives in Batam City, named Jumaniah alias Kiki.

Based on the confession, the suspect DR has been transacting illegal used goods with the suspect Jumaniah since 2022.

"From the suspect DR, we confiscated 169 used clothes," he said.

Nasriadi revealed that from the illegal used goods transaction, the suspect DR had made a profit of IDR 50 million per month.

After arresting DR, investigators from the Direskrimsus Polda Kepri conducted an investigation in Batam City with the Ditreskrimsus Polda Kepri.

The team visited Jumainah's house in Tiban, but it has been empty for several days. Investigators suspect the perpetrator fled.

"The results of the search at the house of the perpetrator Jumainah, we found a truck containing 200 used goods, allegedly to be dispatched to the Sumatra Island area," he said.

The results of the raid in the form of a truck and its contents 200 presidential balls of illegal used goods were brought to the Riau Islands Regional Police to be used as evidence. Meanwhile, the house of the Jumainah perpetrator was installed with a police line.

Nasriadi added that the ranks of the Riau Regional Police and the Riau Islands Regional Police consistently enforce the law to eradicate the smuggling of illegal used goods that harm state finances.

"This is in line with the instructions of the National Police Chief, showing a commitment to President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita Program within 100 working days to suppress the entry of smuggled goods from abroad," said Nasriadi.
