NasDem Legislator Suggests Government Forms Special Agency To Handle Judol
JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR from the NasDem faction, Amelia Anggraini, advised the government to form a special agency to handle online gambling (Judol) which is currently rife in the country.
According to him, strengthening policies related to negative content and online gambling is important, especially in the 100 days of the ongoing government.
Amelia admitted that she was worried about the bad effects of negative content on digital media on the community, especially the younger generation and housewives.
"Online gambling and negative content are our main concern in Commission I, particularly in strengthening the role of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo). We see that the Ministry of Communication and Information's duties must be expanded, not only limited to conventional media surveillance, but also on digital media and social media," Amelia said, Wednesday, November 6.
Therefore, Amelia proposed the establishment of a special agency or institution tasked with supervising and following up on negative content and online gambling issues. "We hope that there are special agencies that have the authority to take immediate action, such as taking down negative content," said the NasDem politician.
"This is an important step to maintain our social and cultural values, as well as ensure that people avoid negative impacts that can damage morals, especially among the younger generation," Amelia continued.
Amelia also highlighted the importance of the role of parents, especially housewives, in dealing with the rise of negative content in cyberspace. According to her, many mothers are worried about seeing their children exposed to unhealthy content.
"We feel the need to educate the public, provide support to parents, and strengthen policies that can prevent this," he said.
Amelia said the challenges of digital media surveillance are getting bigger with the rapid development of digital technology and platforms. Therefore, she said, adaptive legislation and the presence of responsive institutions are needed in order to provide optimal protection for the public from the dangers of online gambling and other negative content.
