NasDem Legislators Suggest Government Form Special Agency to Handle Online Gambling

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives from the NasDem Faction, Amelia Anggraini, suggested that the government form a special agency to handle online gambling (Judol) which is currently rampant in the country.

According to her, strengthening policies related to negative content and online gambling is important, especially in the 100 days of the current government.

Amelia admitted that she was worried about the negative impact of negative content on digital media on society, especially the younger generation and housewives.

"Online gambling and negative content are our main concerns in Commission I, especially in strengthening the role of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo). We see that the duties of Kemkominfo must be expanded, not only limited to monitoring conventional media, but also digital media and social media," said Amelia, Wednesday, November 6.

Therefore, Amelia proposed the formation of a special agency or institution tasked with supervising and following up on the problem of negative content and online gambling. "We hope that there will be a special agency that has the authority to take direct action, such as taking down negative content," said the NasDem politician.

"This is an important step to maintain our social and cultural values, and ensure that society is protected from negative impacts that can damage morals, especially among the younger generation," Amelia continued.

Amelia also highlighted the importance of the role of parents, especially housewives, in dealing with the rampant negative content in cyberspace. According to her, many mothers are anxious about seeing their children exposed to unhealthy content.

"We feel the need to educate the public, provide support to parents, and strengthen policies that can prevent this," she said.

Amelia said that the challenge of supervising digital media is getting bigger with the rapid development of technology and digital platforms. Therefore, she said, adaptive legislation and the presence of responsive institutions are needed to provide optimal protection for the public from the dangers of online gambling and other negative content.

"With this effort, I hope that in the first 100 days of government, the government can show a more real commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy digital space for all levels of society," she concluded.
