In Front Of Commission VI Of The DPR, Erick Thohir Proposed PTPN To Be Merged With Perhutani

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir proposed a merger or merger of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) companies with the Perhutani Public Company (Perum).

Erick said this merger was one of the strategies to achieve the food self-sufficiency target launched by President Prabowo Subianto.

"We are proposing PTPN for a merger with Perhutani," he said in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, November 4.

Currently, continued Erick, the Ministry of SOEs is remapping state-owned companies engaged in the food sector.

Furthermore, Erick believes, the merger of PTPN and Perum Perhutani can expand the amount of land owned.

"So that we have a land area of 2.2 million hectares. We can re-map which ones support food self-sufficiency," he said.

Erick said that one of President Prabowo Subianto's directives was self-sufficiency in sugar.

However, he said, this program could not run yet because there was not enough land.

"We know we want to self-sufficiency in sugar, but the land is not enough. Now this is what we have to replicate, especially since some industries have lost competition. Now this is what we are trying to do for such progress," he said.
