Successfully Managing Mining Safety, SIG Wins Five Prasetya Ahimsa Awards From The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources

JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) won the Prasetya Ahimsa award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) for the Company's success in managing mineral and coal mining safety at the Tuban Factory, East Java and Rembang Factory, Central Java. The same award was also won by three GIS subsidiaries, namely PT Semen Padang, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk Tuban Factory, and PT Semen Baturaja Tbk.

The award was handed over by the Director General of Mineral and Coal, Tri Winarno to the Director of Operations of SIG, Reni Wulandari in a series of activities of the Board of Directors of Mineral and Coal Mining Companies at the Trans Luxury Hotel, Bandung, West Java, on Friday, October 25. Apart from representing GIS receiving the award, Reni Wulandari was also a resource person at Sharing Session and Discussion on the Role of Peak Leaders in Mining Safety Management.

In his presentation, Reni Wulandari emphasized that the safety aspect is the main focus of SIG in all Company operational activities, including mining activities. This spirit is supported by a strong commitment from top management through integrated policies and sustainable supervision.

"For SIG, the safety aspect is not just numbers in the KPI (key performance indicator), but how the Company maintains the safety of workers from work accidents that can threaten their survival and take the happiness of their families at home," said Reni Wulandari, in a written statement, Monday 4 November.

GIS has a management system that integrates all aspects of its operational activities, ranging from safety and work health management (K3) to quality management, according to applicable standards and regulations. One of the top management roles to improve safety aspects is to release a policy of 20 Corporate Life Saving Rules based on the Board of Directors Decree No. 036/Kpts/Dir/2023 as a daily work guideline.

Reni Wulandari explained that the policy of 20 Corporate Life Saving Rules contains safety aspects that are prepared based on the main death toll factor (major killer) in cement factories, from mining to final milling. All are identified statistically and historyally, what is the source of the accident or dangerous, so that it can be the employee's handle in carrying out its duties.

In terms of mining safety, SIG management has specifically compiled a Mining Safety Management System Program (SMKP), as well as issued a Decree on Risk Management No. 016418/MR/SKD/500026/04.2023, as well as a Board of Directors Decree on the Organizational Structure of SMKP No. 029/Kpts/Dir/2023. The SMKP program run by SIG is in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 1827 K/30/MEM/2018.

"In the SMKP program, GIS focuses on two things, both lagging indicators and leading indicators, so that the prevention and aspect of measurement and monitoring are both strengthened. Starting from risk management, safety observation tour, management safety campaign and total productive maintenance. All of this involves not only workers but also the leaders of the company's highest work unit and leadership," said Reni Wulandari.

Reni Wulandari added, as an effort to increase mining awareness management, GIS has implemented a Driving Monitoring System (DMS) on mining activities since 2022. DMS is an innovation in the mining material transportation activity activity in real time at the Tuban Factory GIS by installing In-cabin Camera and Fatigue Sensors on operational vehicles to prevent accidents due to fatigue and unfair action.

In addition, the GIS also created an innovation of digital technology-based integrated mining monitoring system, the Quarry Mining Command Center (QMCC). This technology works by displaying all information from mining surveillance applications on control center screens monitored by officers acting as operational command. QMCC helps optimize surveillance activity and makes mining operations more effective and efficient compared to direct surveillance that requires a lot of coordination and time.

Since the transformation of mining occupation safety and health in 2018 until now, the Tuban Factory's GIS has managed to record zero accidents, zero frequency accidents rate, zero confidence accident rate, and leading indicator safety performance with 100 percent results. In particular, Reni Wulandari expressed her gratitude and high appreciation to all employees and contractors who have and will continue to play an active role in the transformation of the work safety culture.

"SIG is committed to always implementing mining safety management to create a safe and comfortable work environment for workers. GIS also always implements a sharing session between SIG operating companies related to good mining practices as a form of continuous improvement commitment from all companies that are members of the GIS Group," concluded Reni Wulandari.
