Dragon Boat Indonesia Wins 3 Medals In The Philippines

JAKARTA The Indonesian dragon boat rowing team (dragon boat) triumphed by winning three medals consisting of one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the ICF (International Canoe Federation) World Championship 2024 in Puerto Princesa, Philippines.

The three medals were secured from three numbers followed in the category of 10 male and female mixed rowers.

This achievement is the same as the previous week at the 2024 ICF World Cup in Yichang, China, 22-28 October 2024. At that time, Indonesia secured a gold medal for a distance of 200 meters, silver at a distance of 2,000 meters, and bronze for a distance of 500 meters.

Mulyadi Syamsulhadi as team manager said that the three medals from the three events in Yichang managed to pass Indonesia to the ICF World Games in August 2025 in Chengdu, China.

"The team's preparation is only about two weeks after the XXI Aceh-North PON, September 2024," said Mulyadi, quoted by Antara.

The Indonesian negligence was confirmed by the team's performance in Puerto Princesa. However, this result is better than the three silver medals of the Indonesian team in the Asian Championships in the same place, Puerto Princesa, in 2006.

The gold medal was won in the ICF World Championship 2024 on the third day, Saturday, November 2, 2024, from the 200 meter number, with a time of 50.59 seconds.

Indonesia won the silver medal in the competitions (tailrace) 1 on the first day, Thursday, October 31, 2024, a distance of 2,000 meters with a time of 9 minutes 30.99 seconds.

The record is 0.78 seconds adrift of gold medalist, Hungary, in a race 2 with 9 minutes 30.21 seconds. Then, the Republic of Ceska won the bronze medal with 9 minutes 33.84 seconds.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won on the fourth or final day of the championship, Sunday, November 3, 2024, at a distance of 500 meters, with a time of 2 minutes 05.87 seconds or 0.54 seconds behind gold winner, Myanmar, with 2 minutes 05.33 seconds. Hungary won the silver medal with a record of 2 minutes 05.71 seconds.

Head coach, Mohammad Suryadi Pettarpi, said the 14 Indonesian athletes consisting of seven sons and seven daughters had struggled optimally in Yichang and Puerto Princessa, according to their conditions after PON XXI 2024.

"Flying in PON is more tiring because an athlete can compete up to six to eight different numbers in a day," said the 56-year-old West Java coach from South Sulawesi.

Indonesia departed for Puerto Princesa with a focus following three of the 54 events contested with a total participants of 24 countries.

The three numbers, namely the number 10 of the men's and women's mixed rowers ranging 200, 500, and 2,000 meters, are the 2025 ICF World Games qualifying round in Chengdu, China.
