Google Messages Will Present A Photo Resolution Choice Feature Before Sending, Similar To WhatsApp

JAKARTA The Google Messages messaging app will soon present an interesting update that will allow users to choose a photo resolution before sending it. This feature is expected to be similar to the one on WhatsApp, where users can choose between higher or lower image quality as needed.

In the latest beta update of Google Messages (version messages.android_20241029_00_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamics), two new icons were found, namely HD and HD+. Both icons are present in the Photo Picker menu, which will allow users to determine the resolution of the photos to be sent.

Photo Resolution Options in Google Messages

The HD option By selecting the HD option, the photo will be compressed to reduce the file size. Image quality decreases slightly, but delivery becomes faster and more data-efficient. This option is suitable for users who want to send images efficiently without the need for very high quality.

HD+ option If the user selects the HD+ option, the photo will be sent in its original quality without compression. This means the image remains sharp with full resolution, but will use more data and take a little longer delivery time. The HD+ icon will appear in the lower right corner of the photo as a marker of this choice.

This feature is the result of APKEARdown, which helps predict upcoming features based on the code being worked on. While this feature is not yet available on all devices, many users are looking forward to the presence of this update on Google Messages, especially for those who need flexibility in sending high or standard quality photos.

WhatsApp-like Innovation

WhatsApp has already presented a photo quality delivery option with the HD icon, where users can choose between standard quality or HD when sending images. Google seems to adopt a similar concept by adding more specific HD and HD+ icons to differentiate image compression. Even so, Google still adds its own signature touch to the HD+ icon that is not on WhatsApp.

This update also shows how Google is trying to meet users' needs in sharing the media with the appropriate quality, both for fast delivery and high-resolution photos. Currently, this feature is being tested on several devices via the Google Messages beta version and is expected to be rolled out globally for Android and iOS users soon.

With the presence of this option, Google Messages is increasingly becoming a messaging application that supports the needs of modern users, especially in the aspect of sharing media with flexible resolutions as needed.
