PBNU Encourages Completely Investigating The Involvement Of Komdigi Persons Involved In Online Gambling Practices

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Ahmad Fahrur Rozi, encourages the thorough investigation of the involvement of unscrupulous employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) in online or online gambling practices (judol), because it is a serious violation.

PBNU chairman Fahrur also expressed his appreciation for the performance of the Indonesian Police who succeeded in uncovering an online gambling case involving the Kemkomdigi employee.

"We appreciate the hard work of the police officers who have succeeded in arresting online gamblers, including the alleged involvement of unscrupulous Kemkomdigi employees who are playing with government regulations. This is a serious violation that needs to be followed up," said the man who is familiarly called Gus Fahrur, quoted from Antara, Saturday 2 November.

Gus Fahrur stated that PBNU fully supports the government's efforts to eradicate online gambling. According to him, online gambling practices not only harm the community's economy, but also have a negative impact on mental health.

"We fully support the government's steps to close judol which is detrimental to the economy and damage people's mental health. Online gambling causes stress, depression, and other mental disorders, such as the tendency to lie, steal, and sell valuables for gambling," he said.

He emphasized that the handling of online gambling must be taken seriously by law enforcement officials as well as related ministries and institutions. This is in line with the purpose of establishing the Online Judi Eradication Task Force through Presidential Decree Number 21 of 2024.

Previously, the joint team managed to arrest 11 suspects, including several Kemkomdigi employees related to online gambling cases. These employees have full authority to block online gambling sites, but instead abuse these powers.

Related to this, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, met President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (1/11) to submit the latest report regarding the arrest of unscrupulous Ministry of Communication and Trade employees for allegedly being involved in online gambling.

In his statement after the meeting, the Minister of Trade, Meutya, said that President Prabowo supports the steps taken by the National Police and the Ministry of Communication and Trade to eradicate online gambling practices, including those involving government officials.
