Zheng Qinwen Not Too Happy To Make Debut In WTA Finals, This Is The Reason
JAKARTA - WTA Finals Riyadh will start on Saturday, November 2 at the indoor hard field at the King Saud University Sports Arena.
In this tournament, Chinese player Zheng Qinwen will make his debut which can only be followed by the top eight players this season.
Meanwhile, the top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals on Friday, November 8, and the winner will advance to the final on Saturday, November 9.
So world number seven Zheng admits that it is difficult to get a "respect" from other players to be reckoned with as a strong opponent for them.
"I think the biggest lesson I learned from this season is never to let yourself down, even if you get great results," Zheng said in a media meeting ahead of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, quoted from the WTA official website., reported ANTARA, Saturday, November 2nd
"It's very, very difficult to get respect (respect) from the players, but it's very easy to lose. Maybe one, two, three tournaments you disappoint yourself, you don't play seriously, then suddenly all the respect is gone."
"I study, even though (if I) have a great tournament, I need to maintain the level if I win. Otherwise, it's better if you don't stand on the pitch," said the Paris Olympic gold winner.
On the first day of the tournament, Zheng will enter the tournament with a round-robin game. He will face world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who is the final rematch of the last WTA 1000 this season.
Sabalenka beat Zheng in the first three meetings of their careers, including the Australian Open final in January, but the China number one made a breakthrough in their last game, a dramatic three-set battle in his hometown of Wuhan. Sabalenka won thanks to a superior service performance at the end of the match.
Zheng has had a great run this season. He has just won the title at the Toray Pan Pacific Open. His title in Tokyo ended Zheng's extraordinary journey on the Asian tour, reaching his first WTA 1000 semifinals at the China Open and his first WTA 1000 final at the Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open.
Meanwhile, the second single match on the first day of the WTA Finals will bring together tennis player number 4 Jasmine Paolini against tennis player number 5 Elena Rybakina, the rematch of the quarter-finals of Roland Garros.
