Is It True That Toilet Tisu Can Cause Muncul Infections?

JAKARTA - The use of toilet paper has become a daily requirement for many people. The main function is to clean yourself up after urination. However, recently there have been many rumors regarding the hygiene of toilet tissue which is considered to cause fungal infection. Is that true?

The use of toilet tissue that triggers fungal infection actually refers to tissue whitened with chemicals, and has a certain aroma. But related to this, female sexual health expert totaling Ross MD OB/GYN said that in general toilet paper does not cause fungal infection.

"Although everyone has different sensitivities, the practice of making toilet tissue has built-in safety guidelines to protect people from the absorption of a number of harmful chemicals into the body," said Dr. Ross as quoted by Antara.

This means not all toilet tissue brands can cause potential irritation. Toilet wipes made with fragrances, chlorine bleach, and other potentially dangerous tissues, such as petroleum-based dyes, can cause skin irritation and discomfort in some people, says Dr. Ross.

These ingredients are more likely to cause mild irritation of the vagina or vulva, in someone who has a very sensitive or allergic skin, rather than causing fungal growth.

One old 2010 case study at the Canadian Family Physician did examine a woman whose fungal infection disappeared after replacing a white toilet tissue with unwhiteened toilet paper.

However, this is just one case that has not been repeated for more than a decade, so further research needs to be done.

Ross says if you don't experience itching or irritation or repeated fungal infection, then there's no reason to throw away toilet tissue or replace it with a new brand.

"If you experience repeated fungal infection, there's nothing wrong with finding a brand that is fragrance-free, color-free, unwhitened, or made from natural ingredients to minimize the risk of irritation and discomfort," he said.

Because fungal infections can be caused by dozens of different (significantly) causes, including eating habits, immune systems, and clothing choices.
