MotoGP Still Waiting For Valencia's Situation Before Discussing The Final Series

JAKARTA - The MotoGP finally opened its voice regarding the Badai Dana disaster that hit the Province of Valencia, Spain, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

A number of important facilities, including the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, were heavily damaged and left 72 people dead and a number of people reported missing.

In fact, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit is the arena for the last MotoGP MotoGP series for the 2024 season on 15-17 November 2024.

In addition, the circuit in Valencia is scheduled as a post-season testing arena on November 19, 2024.

The problem is, flash floods caused by Hurricane Dana destroyed access roads around the circuit and several other facilities.

No wonder, there are doubts that the final MotoGP series of the season could be held in Valencia.

However, shortly after the disaster, MotoGP tried to straighten out the speculation circulating over the cancellation of Valencia's MotoGP and the possibility of moving the circuit to the final series.

MotoGP is still committed to holding the final series in Valencia while continuing to monitor the day-to-day situation.

The most important thing now is that MotoGP provides full support to local authorities in dealing with the crisis, before making a final decision on the Valencia Grand Prix.

"Everyone is aware of the current situation in Valencia caused by heavy rains and floods," read a MotoGP statement.

"Unfortunately, more than 50 people died in the region and many people are still missing. Our hearts are on the victims and their loved ones."

"Fortunately there were no injuries among the circuit staff, but there was severe damage to the outside of the facility, particularly to circuit access," the MotoGP statement said again.

MotoGP officials further announced that the circuit was not damaged by flash floods.

However, his party continues to conduct a thorough evaluation of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit as a consideration for decision-making.

"We have been informed that the Grand Prix track itself appears to be in good condition although a thorough evaluation is still ongoing."

"As you all understand, it will be insensitive and irresponsible to talk about the event at this time."

"The focus must continue to be given to help those affected and circuits are currently being used as aid centers. As MotoGP, we have to try to help in any way possible."

"Nevertheless, both local governments and MotoGP remain committed to holding the event on a scheduled date and will work hard to make it happen."

"We will follow up with more information when it is available and will immediately notify if there is a change in the rules of the event," reads the MotoGP statement again.

Heavy rains have hit the Valencia area for 24 hours on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The rain has actually fallen for a month within eight hours per day.

Meanwhile, MotoGP has experienced a similar incident this season. They canceled the Kazakhstan series after the area was hit by a large flood that caused logistical activity to experience problems.
