Journalist In Mexico Shot Dead After Live Streaming On Social Media
JAKARTA - Mauricio Cruz, a journalist in Mexico was shot dead after hosting a live social media broadcast on Tuesday night.
Mauricio Cruz was killed in the city of Uruapan, in Michoacan state in the western part of violence, according to the state prosecutor's office. Another person, who was not named by the prosecutor, was injured in the shooting.
Reported by Reuters on Wednesday, October 30, Cruz media, MinutoXMinuto Michoacan, posted a tribute to the journalist on his Facebook page showing his last live video recorded minutes before his death.
Cruz's murder marked the first murder of a journalist under President Claudia Sheinbaum who took office earlier this month.
Mexico ranks as one of the deadliest countries for journalists by a press freedom group for violence perpetrated by organized crimes and local politicians.
Uruapan is known for his rude crimes such as deledging his head due to a fight between drug cartels or confrontations with law enforcement. It is not yet clear which city the murder took place.
