Olympic Gold Medal Donator's Sport Remains A Priority

JAKARTA The sports (sports) that contribute to the Olympic gold medal will remain a priority from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) of the Republic of Indonesia.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (Wamenpora), Taufik Hidayat, emphasized that this did not cut attention to other sports as directed by President Prabowo Subianto.

"Indeed, he (President Prabowo Subianto) all of us. We have to be fair. All sports have the same opportunities, but not all sports participate in the Olympics," said Taufik Hidayat.

In Indonesia's history at the Olympics, several sports that routinely donate medals include badminton, weightlifting, rock climbing, and archery.

Badminton is still the dominant sport so far because it managed to collect eight gold medals. The other two sports that have contributed gold are rock climbing and weightlifting.

Taufik said that these sports will remain Indonesia's hope in the future, especially at the 2028 Olympics which will take place in Los Angeles, United States.

"We know which ones participate in the Olympics per four years, which sports continue to donate medals, but there will be priorities for sports that get gold medals," said Taufik.

For the Los Angeles issue later, Indonesia is targeting to bring home more than two gold medals. So far, two gold medals in one edition of the Olympics are still Indonesia's best achievements.

The two gold medals in one edition were won on two occasions, respectively at Barcelona 1992 and Paris which just took place in July-August 2024.
