AGO Opens The Possibility Of New Suspects After Tom Lembong

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) does not rule out the possibility that it will drag new suspects in the alleged corruption case of sugar imports. Originally, sufficient preliminary evidence was found.

"So is it possible to have a new suspect in this case? It really depends on whether there is sufficient preliminary evidence, at least it is obtained from two pieces of evidence to determine whether someone is a suspect or not," said Head of the AGO, Harli Siregar to reporters, Wednesday, October 30.

The initial evidence in question is such as witness testimony and documentary evidence.

So far, the AGO has named two suspects in the corruption case, namely the former Minister of Trade (Mendag), Thomas Trikasih Lembong or Tom Lembong, and CS who is the director of PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI).

Meanwhile, regarding the series of witness examinations in the development of the case, Harli stated that later it would be decided by investigators. Because, this matter will refer to the progress of the investigation process.

"So investigators will continue to see if it is still necessary, whether the addition of witnesses or the formation of information," said Harli.

In this case, Tom Lembong and CS were charged with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 Juncto Article 18 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2021 Juncto Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Corruption Crimes Juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
