Premier League Coach Puts Simpati On Erik Ten Hag's Dismissal

JAKARTA - The Premier League managers have expressed sympathy for Erik ten Hag after he was sacked by Manchester United on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Some of those who regretted the departure of the Dutch coach were Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Manchester City captain Pep Guardiola, and Tottenham Hotspur coach, Ange Postecoglou.

Ten Hag's two-and-a-half-year term at Old Trafford ended after a 1-2 loss to West Ham at London Stadium last weekend.

Ten Hag left the club when Manchester United were 14th in the 2024/2025 Premier League standings and without a win at the Europa tournament for more than 12 months.

"He is a Dutch manager so it makes things even more difficult for me, for us as Dutch."

"Your first thought is always on that person. We all work in this realm. So, we know that it can happen."

"Because I know him, I know how much effort he put forward for it. Of course, it is very unfortunate to hear this news from him," Slot said at a press conference on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

The Reds manager was further disappointed with Manchester United's decision to expel Ten Hag.

Arne Slot still praised Ten Hag's abilities so far. Moreover, the 54-year-old coach has proven his quality since being with Ajax Amsterdam.

"We also know, especially those of us from the Netherlands. How great he is playing in Ajax."

"That he also won two trophies here (Manchester United), the 2023/2024 FA Cup and the 2022/2023 Carabao Cup."

"So, I think we'll see him again at a big club in the near future, but now for him and his family, of course this tragedy may be too much to say. It's a huge disappointment," said Arne Slot again at ESPN.

In three pieces of money with Arne Slot, Pep Guardiola also felt sorry for Ten Hag.

The Spaniard also understands that job uncertainty is part of the game for managers at the Premier League level.

"I feel sorry for him. I don't see architects, doctors, teachers being fired, but people are expecting results from us."

"If I don't get results, I won't be here. It's a business. You have to accept the results," said Pep Guardiola.

Meanwhile, head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou, said Ten Hag's departure was inevitable.

He was not surprised by the dismissal of the Dutch coach despite being disappointed.

"No, not really surprised. Even though it's disappointing, it's almost inevitable with the tight supervision he's received. So, yes, that's how football has been lately," Postecoglou said.

Apart from that, a number of names are candidates to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim is the top name to be brought to Old Trafford. However, he still expressed his desire to stay at Sporting CP.

In fact, the Red Devils are ready to spend 10 million euros on the Portuguese manager's release clause.

Thomas Frank is also a name that is widely rumored to have left Brentford to land at Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United is still considering Frank's clause which is twice as large as the amorious.

While Manchester United are looking for a replacement for Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy was asked to be interim coach until the Carabao Cup match against Leicester City on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
