PLN Collaborates With Antam To Distribute Clean Electricity To Smelters In Pomalaa

PT PLN (Persero) collaborated with PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) to present electricity supply for the Feronikel Smelter factory in Pomalaa District, Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

Later Antam will use 150 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) of clean electricity through 112,940 units of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) or equivalent to 112.9 Megawatt Hours (MWH) per year.

General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar) Budiono said that his party is ready to supply PT Antam's electricity smelter needs in Kolaka and the industrial sector in Southeast Sulawesi Province. His party guarantees that the supply of clean electricity in South Sulawesi is in sufficient condition with a renewable energy generation rate of 45.78 percent, one of the highest in Indonesia.

"The smelter industry requires a large and quality electricity supply. This is proof that smelters can focus on the company's core business, while we will provide customers with electricity needs," Budiono said, quoted Wednesday, October 30.

Budiono also explained, in addition to Antam's smelter, in the working area of PLN UID Sulselrabar there are already eight high-voltage customers who have entrusted their electricity service needs to PLN with a total power of 612 MVA.

"This cooperation is not only beneficial for the two SOEs, but also creates a positive impact on the local and national economy," explained Budiono.

President Director of Antam, Nico Kanter explained, this collaboration not only increases operational efficiency, but also supports the company's efforts to transform technology and reduce carbon emissions.

This cooperation is a real step in implementing SOE synergies in supporting downstreaming by using more environmentally friendly energy. This collaboration benefits are not only felt by both parties, but also for national efforts towards net zero emissions in 2060," said Nico.

The Smelter Feronikel, managed by the Nickel Kolaka Mining Business Unit (UBP Nickel Kolaka), is one of the key facilities in the mineral downstream chain.

UBP Nickel Kolaka has a ferronickel production capacity of up to 27,000 tons of nickel in feronikel (TNi) per year which is intended for domestic needs and even exports to China, India, South Korea, and Taiwan.
