Free Rental For Pasar Rumput Flats For Residents Affected By The Manggarai Fire Extended By A Year

Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi said the central government decided to extend the disbursement of the rental fee for the Pasar Rumput Flats, South Jakarta for residents affected by the Manggarai fire for one year.

"Residents affected by the fire are our priority so that they can live in flats. There are 450 fire victims who will live in flats for free over the next year," Teguh said in his statement, Monday, October 28.

Teguh hopes that efforts to ease the burden on residents whose houses were burned and affected by the Manggarai fire on August 13 can encourage them to re-increase their standard of living.

"Hopefully they can get a good life. Return to work and live prosperously in this flat," said Teguh.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian explained that the reduction in rental costs was directed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto and this policy was prioritized for the low-income lower class people.

"The direction of the President is very clear, the main priority is to the people who are low class, which they don't have a house, that's number one," said Tito.

Tito also asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to monitor and evaluate this policy in order to prevent the potential for the free flat unit to be leased back to other people.

"For example, in this flat, later the responsibility will be the President Director of Pasar Jaya assisted by the Mayor to ensure that these units are filled by concrete residents," said Tito.

For information, the fire that occurred on August 13 scorched approximately 683 buildings on Jalan Dr Saharjo 1, RW 06 and RW 012 with the number of affected victims reaching 1,050 families.

Currently, hundreds of families who survived the Manggarai fire have been relocated to the Pasar Rumput Flats, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. They have been facilitated by occupancy without rental fees since September.
