Legislator: Pertamina Able To Support Prabowo's Government In Self-Sufficiency In Energy

JAKARTA - Member of Commission XII of the House of Representatives Eddy Soeparno is optimistic that Pertamina will be able to support the efforts of the Prabowo Subianto Government to realize energy self-sufficiency. Eddy's belief is because Pertamina is indeed showing an encouraging performance and is committed to maintaining energy security. In fact, currently the SOE energy continues to transform into a world-class oil and gas company.

"Swasembada energy, I have optimism for Pertamina because now it has transformed into a world-class company," said Eddy to the media, quoted Monday, October 28.

As a backbone in an effort to achieve the energy self-sufficiency target, Pertamina's performance is indeed considered encouraging. According to Eddy, Pertamina has implemented good business governance, including practicing and improving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

Pertamina's various performances are very supportive of the Government's program in the energy sector. Even today, 62 percent of oil and gas production is Pertamina's production," he continued.

Regarding energy self-sufficiency, Eddy explained, a process is needed to go to the target. The first thing to achieve is energy security. Energy security is the guaranteed supply of energy for national needs. At this stage, explained Eddy, it is not absolutely sourced from within the country, but also from foreign sources.

"For example, so far the domestic supply of LPG is guaranteed, because Pertamina has tied contracts with its suppliers. Likewise, oil lifting is around 600 thousand barrels per day, the rest is through contract binding carried out by Pertamina as well. This will make domestic energy guarantees fulfilled," said Eddy.

After that, he added, then towards energy independence. Energy independence, among others, can be achieved through the energy transition process.

Process from fossil energy to renewable energy. Renewable energy if we manage and develop it can replace fossil energy, which we mostly import. So while we make an energy transition we realize energy resilience and independence," he explained.

Thus, continued Eddy, the various efforts that Pertamina has made are also a process towards energy independence in order to realize energy self-sufficiency. This includes various breakthroughs made by Pertamina, such as the development of biofuels, petrochemicals, geothermals, and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCS/CCUS).

"That's right. It's all included in efforts to gain energy and create clean energy," said Eddy.

Likewise, Eddy reminded, in order to realize the energy self-sufficiency program, the Government still needs to provide support to Pertamina, which in fact is an energy SOE. For example, through strengthening capital so that it can expand to find oil and gas sources abroad.

In addition, there are also incentives to carry out various business activities from various business lines. And, not only that. Eddy added that as a BUMN, Pertamina also needs regulatory support

"Regulation must also be given, because as a company in the oil and gas sector, Pertamina must take precedence. For example, if there is a tender for existing oil and gas blocks, Pertamina must get a preference to see which oil and gas blocks deserve further development," concluded Eddy.
