Xiaomi Accelerates Construction Of The Second Phase EV Factory In Beijing, Prepares Mass Production Next Year

JAKARTA - Chinese technology company Xiaomi, which is now getting serious about getting into the environmentally friendly vehicle industry, is accelerating the construction of Beijing's second phase electric vehicle (EV) plant. With big ambitions in the EV market, Xiaomi ensures this project runs quickly and efficiently.

Citing the CNevpost report, Friday, October 25, the construction of the second phase of the factory was carried out intensively. Construction workers work in double shifts, ensuring the project runs non-stop, both day and night. Local media National Business Daily reported that the morning shift began at 06:00 am, while the night shift began at 18:00 local time.

"The construction of the main factory structure is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and all construction projections are scheduled to be completed on June 15 next year," said one source familiar with the details of the project.

The location of this second phase of the factory is adjacent to the first phase of the plant, and roads around the site will be expanded to support Xiaomi's long-term operations and projections in the EV industry.

Xiaomi first announced its plans to enter the smart electric vehicle business on March 30, 2021. This step is a serious sign that Xiaomi is ready to compete in the environmentally friendly car segment. In November 2021, Xiaomi signed a contract with authorities in Yizhuang, Beijing, to build an electric vehicle production facility with an annual production capacity of 300,000 units.

This factory is built in two stages, each with a production capacity of 150,000 units per year, according to the set target. With the completion of the second phase of the factory, Xiaomi is optimistic that it can reach full production capacity.

Currently, Xiaomi has launched its first electric car model, namely SU7, a futuristic sedan that comes in three variants. The standard version is priced at 215,900 yuan (around Rp476 million), the Pro variant at 245,900 yuan (around Rp542 million), and the Max variant at a price of 299,900 yuan (around Rp661 million).

It doesn't stop there, Xiaomi is also preparing a next electric vehicle model, namely the SUV which is expected to be launched next year. Several times, the SUV was seen undergoing road trials in China, sparking enthusiasm for automotive fans.
