Intending To Play The La Liga Party In Miami, Barcelona Vs Atletico Becomes A Small Experiment

JAKARTA - La Liga continues to strive to host Barcelona's home game against Atletico Madrid in Miami in the third week of December 2024.

However, according to various sources to ESPN, several things still need to be resolved so that the plan can run.

La Liga has been trying to hold matches in the United States for several years. However, it has previously been opposed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), FIFA, and the US Soccer (United States Football Federation).

ESPN sources said some of these problems had now melted. There is a real possibility to host Barca's match against Atletico at Hard Rock Stadium.

Relevent Sports Group, which worked on the project in collaboration with La Liga, did not want to comment on any recent developments.

A source in FIFA admitted that La Liga and clubs were working on the plan, but did not immediately explain the new position of the regulatory agency.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has repeatedly spoken about his desire to play regular season matches abroad. Meanwhile, sources told ESPN that the news would not come out if the two clubs were not interested in being involved.

Barca and Atletico were both involved in their previous plans to host matches in the United States. However, Barca's matches against Girona and Atletico's match with Villarreal were ultimately not moved.

At the time, this happened because of the rejection of several sports bodies. However, the attitude in some of these organizations has changed after an important court case earlier this year.

In April 2024, the United States Supreme Court allowed an antitrust Relevent Sports Group lawsuit to be filed against FIFA and the United States Football Federation.

This is related to the policy of the world football governing body (FIFA) which does not allow a country to host league matches involving teams from other countries.

Despite winning, there are still other unanswered questions. The situation in the RFEF is the most complicated. You see, the institution does not have a president until December 16, 024.

However, a source said the interim council would be able to approve matches abroad. UEFA, which regulates football in Europe, must also approve the plan.

"UEFA has not been approached regarding this issue. The process that must be followed in such cases is to obtain approval from clubs, RFEF, US Soccer, Concacaf, and only then from UEFA," a spokesman for the RFEF told ESPN.

Apart from that, if the Barcelona vs Atletico match is held in Miami, in the third week of December 2024, to be precise on December 22, 2024, there will also be a Miami Dolphins vs San Francisco 49ers match at Hard Rock Stadium.
