Hezbollah Fires Rockets, Air Raid Sirens Make US Secretary of State Blinken Delay Departure From Israel

JAKARTA - Air raid sirens sounded in central and northern Israel on Wednesday morning, delaying the departure of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken as Hezbollah targeted a military base north of Tel Aviv.

Hezbollah said it fired rockets at the Glilot military base, which houses Israel's military intelligence unit.

The rockets were intercepted by Israel and there was no indication of any damage to the aircraft carrying Blinken, who was scheduled to leave Tel Aviv Thursday morning.

"After sirens sounded some time ago in central and northern Israel, two projectiles fired from Lebanon that crossed into Israel were intercepted," the Israeli military said, as reported by CNN, Wednesday, October 23.

Israeli police said they had received reports of interceptor components falling in the Herzliya and Ramat Hasharon areas of central Israel.

"Damage was caused to one of the vehicles," the police said.

Blinken was sent to the Middle East by President Joe Biden after the Israeli military killed a Hamas leader last week.
