6 People Allegedly Involved In Inter-Village Conflict In West Adonara Flotim Arrested By Police

East Flores Police, East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police arrested six people involved in an inter-village conflict in West Adonara District, Adonara Island, East Flores Regency, yesterday.

"Reports from Kabagops stated that they had secured six people who were carrying sharp weapons. They will be processed further at the Resort Police," said East Flores Police Chief AKBP I Nyoman Putra in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 22.

He said this was related to the development of conflicts between residents in two villages, namely Bugalama and Ilepati in West Adonara District. The conflict resulted in 51 houses being reportedly burned and one person dying from the fire. Four people were reported to have suffered gunshot wounds.

A number of residents who were arrested are now being investigated by the East Flores Police Criminal Investigation team. In addition, he said that currently the East Flores Police identification team is also conducting a crime scene investigation at the fire site in Bugalima village.

During the crime scene, the team collected evidence related to the fire for investigation purposes. After that, the victim who was found inside the house was evacuated and taken to the Waiwadan Health Center for a post-mortem. After the post-mortem process, the body was brought back to the Bugalim Village Office for burial.

The police chief appealed to the public not to take countermeasures and submit conflict resolution to the authorities.

"We ask each community leader to refrain. There is no problem that must be resolved with violence. The government, the National Police, and the TNI are ready to handle this situation well," said the Police Chief.

The police chief also explained that both parties had reached an agreement not to carry out further attacks.

"Currently the situation on the ground is more conducive. We have arrested several people suspected of being involved in violent acts and will carry out further investigations," he added.

As part of efforts to maintain security, personnel from the West Adonara Police, assisted by the East Flores Police and the TNI, carry out patrols to create conditions in areas affected by the conflict.

This patrol is led directly by the West Adonara Police Chief, Januardana Rambi IPDA, Stefen A. Lidimaran, and Danramil 1624/02 Adonara, Major Inf. Samiun.

In addition to patrols, the Police also continue to coordinate with local governments and other relevant agencies to find peaceful solutions to this conflict.

The police chief emphasized that all preventive measures are being taken to prevent further escalation, including additional personnel if needed.

The police also appealed to the public to return to their respective homes and not to be provoked by issues that could worsen the situation.

"We continue to strive to keep the situation under control and hope that the community can comply with the directions given to maintain mutual security," concluded the Police Chief.
